I have aN 1989 VOLVO 740 GL I backed out of the parking area and I can't get out of reverse can you help

Have you inspected the linkage to see if it is stuck? Maybe motor and trans mounts are broken and that is holding the linkage from moving. Or there might be an internal problem in the trans and the valve body shift valve is not moving. You need to have the car inspected and find the area where it is stuck or broken. This one is a hands on type of job.
