Volvo: 1970 volvo rattling badly during idle, temperature gauge, compression test

Question
Hi! My Volvo has started idling very badly, and violently in the past few weeks.
The noise has also increased. It doesn't sound like it will die, but I am concerned
about the health of the engine. The temperature gauge has also been slightly
higher. It used to warm up and eventually idle nicely, but now it doesn't.

Answer
Erin,
A good inspection of the plugs and points maybe a compression test will show what is going on. There is noise? That will need to be traced and followed to the source. A valve spring may be broken, plug fouled, bad compression in a cylinder, etc.
