Volvo: 1998 V70 cv shafts, cv boots, cv shafts

Question
Ray,
The cv boots on my 1998 V70 (FWD) are torn.  Rebuilt shafts are not too expensive so I'm thinking about going that way. I can find some general information on replacing front wheel drive shafts, but nothing specific for the Volvo.  Is there anything unusual to be aware of or any specific tools needed?  Also, for someone with basic auto repair experience, about how long will this take per side? (If its too big a job I may just take it to the mechanic)  Thanks, Mike

Answer
Mike,
No special tools required and basic knowlege ahould do. I remove control arm bolts if not an AWD, and pull hub assembly to gain room to pop out axle. Left one needs to be popped out pryed out by trans case. I use a large screw driver or chisel. The right side pulls out much easier. I can do an axle in about 45 minutes.
