Volvo: 97 volvo 960 revs up to 3k rpm at startup, accelerator cable, volvo 960

My 97 960 revs really high when I start it up. Could this be the idle control valve? I have unplugged it and it seems to have solved the high rev when it idles. I was also wondering if I can drive the car for about a 4 hour trip the next couple days without the idle control valve plugged in.

Read the fault codes and check the throttle housing seeing that it is closing all the way. Could the accelerator cable been pulled and now it is sticking?
If you unplug the IAC valve you will set a code. With a high idle I would say get that fixed before any trips. Play it safe and don't ruin anything else, or jeopardize safety.
