Volvo: automatic shifter button stuck 91 240, shift lock, hundred times

hi i press the brake so i can release into drive or reverse and the top button will not go down it stays stuck. i may pump that brake pedal a hundred times before it works. my brake lights work no problem with brake lights. this shiftor problem is giving me arthritis. what in the world is the problem?

The shift lock system on your car has gone bad. The system will need to be inspected to see why it continues not to operate. Perhaps some well placed lubrication or a broken wire repair will be the fix. Get the car to a shop that knows the Volvo and get their opinion.
