Volvo: low compression, volvo v70, throttle linkage

Question
Hi Please, please, please help!just bought a volvo v70 last week,82000miles on the clock, broke down on saturday with a blocked throttle linkage.upon further inspection have been told by a volvo speacialist after a compression test was that 1st cylinder was 60-70 2nd was 130 3rd 60-70 4th 110 and 5th 100.specialists conclusion is new engine.is he right?thanks andy

Answer
Andy,
It would appear that he is correct, but there is a chance that the loss of compression is from the valves and not the pistons or rings. Now if that is the case then removal of the head is needed. That alone is a good size job and maybe the reason that an engine replacement was suggested.
