Volvo: Volvo 740 Turbo Automatic Saloon Brakes, car brakes, volvo 740

Question
I have a 1990 Volvo 740 which has a front brake problem. On light braking the car brakes unevenly but it happens intermittently and is irrespective of weather conditions.I have taken it into a Volvo garage and also my local garage on three occasions with no success. It has had new discs, one new caliper, new pads but no permanent cure has ensued. The brakes pass the MOT rolling road braking tests every time.I thought one caliper was sluggish but garage disagrees. Is there a device in the hydraulic line which could cause the problem. The antilock braking light comes on sometimes but even this doesn't coincide with uneven braking instances

Answer
Tony,
No special tool or tester to establish what causes or measures for uneven braking. If this problem bothers you enough you can buy new calipers and rotors that fit the 91 Y/M cars and upgrade to the Jumbo brakes. Make sure you also replace the rubber brake lines.
