Volvo: 1996 Volvo 960 4dr sedan, 1996 volvo 960, volvo 960

Question
What the heck was the problem with the air conditioners in the above yr/make volvos. When my vehicle was new (within the 1st yr) the ac was replaced 3x's. Ofcourse the dealer input the problem just alittle bit (into computer) I believe so I could not invoke the lemon law. However, over the years it was one thing after another. It would blow out a white smoke (no oder) for a few minutes & then just stop. My mechanic put freon in it numerous times also put dye into the system & was no able to diagnose what the deal was. It finally died. Do you know if Volvo ever admitted an ac problem with this vehicle. I just purchased a 2004 S-60 & I'm praying that it will be a good choice.
thanks for your opinion. Carol

Answer
Carol,
On the typical 960 there are few problems with the A/C. Now I do see many that need servicing yearly, that is recharging.
The S60 appears to be a nice car, but it has not been out long enought to tell if they will last as long as the "older Volvos". So far as I know the car has been good without too many problems. I think that the secret is to keep the maintenance up to stay ahead of problems.
