Volvo: 93 Volvo 945, vacuum leaks, fuel pumps

Question
I'm concerned that we've got some major issues with our wagon. Upon
returning to Bellingham from Seattle our car would lose power and die while
driving. But only within a few minutes of starting it up.

We drove down to Seattle with no problems. Then this afternoon our first
attempt to leave the city started with a low idle, around 500-700 RPM. I
thought this was odd, and sure enough it died. THe car started up right away
and so along I went. Two miles later, the car dies while driving. I waited
several minutes and it starts up no problem again. Once started I dared not
stop until I had to get gas. There upon the same sequence of events
happened.

Could this be a distributor problem, or a fuel pump? Either way it's got 217K
miles on it, and I'm thinking about retiring it...at least to local driving only.

Please advise. Your help is appreciated!

Answer
Anya,
You will need to have some tests run on this car, test things like fuel pumps and pressure, inspect the cap and rotor, wires, plugs make sure there are no signs of vacuum leaks, etc. Now that will cost so are you ready to spend some money on it or is selling it a better option? You decide there are a lot of miles and there are many maintenance things that would possible need to be replace to be sure that they are all good.
