Volvo: 2001 volvo v70 xc intermittent starting issue, 2001 volvo v70, volvo v70

Question
On our 2001 Volvo v70 XC, we have just replaced the battery due to starting issues.  The battery didn't solve the problem.  When the car is cool or sits for a while, it will start fine, and it always starts in the morning.  After driving the car for a while and shutting it off, you may have a problem starting up right away.  It will make a sound like your car would if it had a low charged battery when you turn the key.  It only does this when the vehicle is warm, or just turned of with in a time frame of 30 minutes or less.  Some say it may be a bad connection from the battery to the engine and some say it may be a bad ground, but why does it only do this when the car is hot or warm?  Please help me find this problem.
Thanks
Mike

Answer
Mike,
If the engine is still hot when this happend then I would say the starter draws too many apms when hot. Do an amp draw test when the vehicle is hot. I have seen a few times where the battery cables are starting to corrode and then it takes a lot of extra power (amps) to carry the needed voltage. After running the car for a half hour or so carefully touch the positive and or negitive terminal at the battery noting if they are extreamlly hot. If they are then it is quite possibly the cables are bad or corroded causing resitance in the cables. Too much resistance causes heat build up and makes it hard to push the needed power through the cable.
