Volvo: volvo 850 wipers, fuse box, volvo 850

i just bought an 850 t-5 saloon. the only problem i can find with the car is the wipers. they don't work !
the wipers will sweep the screen if the wash/wipe is activated, but as soon as the switch is released, they stop immediately.
had a quick look thru the handbook but it doesn't mention a fuse for the wipers,
what is the most likely culprit ?
i figure it has to be either the switch itself, a fuse, or the relay.
HELP !

Make sure that you click on the switch for the wipers. One down is low speed and two clicks is high. The wiper motor works so I would say that the switch is bad, only working in the washer position. It is not a fuse since the wiper do work, pull off the fuse box cover and read the listing.
