-----Question-----
Hi;
When I start my 98 Volvo S-70 T-5 Manuel engine in the morning a squealing noise is coming from the motor. When the engine reaches Normal temperature the sound disappears in one second. When stepping on the throttle, and as the RPM's go up the noise stays constant. There are no check engines coming on, no overheating nothing it runs fine. However yesterday it did not make this noise it sounding like something engaged like a clutch or a part turning on. The sound is so loud I can here it inside the cabin with the music turned up. Any ideas?
Thank you for your time.
-----Answer-----
Frank,
Check the belt tensioners and idler pulleys for the both the drive belt and timing belt.

Answer
Frank,
The effects are really dependent upon what the noise is. If the Timing belt seizes or breaks then major repairs are needed. If the drive belt stops no power from the alternator and power steering stops, not as major as the timing belt but should be checked as soon as you can.
