Volvo: 1989 Vovlo 70 GLE, new englad, battery cables

Question
When I push on the gas it doesn't accelerate sometimes and feels like it's about to stall and makes putter noises and will do this for about 5 minutes or so.  I also start it up and let it run due to the bitter new englad weather and it putters and will feel like it's about to stall but doesn't. It finally gave in and now won't start at all.  It makes a click sound but nothing happens. I replaced the battery last month.  Do you have any ideas?

Answer
Jen,
The acceleration problem could be due to needing a tune up and perhaps an injection flush/cleaning.
If not enoght voltage is getting to the small wire on the starter it will not engage. I have seen a lot of problems with too much resistance in the older wiring causing low voltage. There is a starter relay kit that can be added to eliminate that as a problem. You can also test the battery cables making sure all the contacts are tight and clean. The electrical portion of the ignition switch has a high failure rate also. Do some testing and see what those voltage values are...
