Volvo: 1991 Volveo 940 2Litre Petrol, fuel pressure, fuel system

Question
I have an intermittent cold starting problem as follows. Car will sometimes not start when cold but turns over ok. Only occurs when not garaged overnight and in cold weather. Only solution to leave car sit for a few hours and hope it starts next time. Once started car runs perfectly. Petrol pump has already been replaced.

Answer
John,
Test the fuel pressure, that will help to tell if you are getting fuel at start up. If you do, see if you are getting spark first at the coil and then at the plugs. Fuel pressure should be 42psi and rise slightly on acceleration dropping back to 42. Which pump has been replaced, main or pre? What fuel system do you have Regina or Bosch?
