Volvo: key stuck in ignition, key stuck in ignition, best guess

Question
I read your prvious answer to this question. Can the cable that connects the ignition lock to the linkage be easily disconnected, and will that solve the problem while still allowing the ignition to work? If so, does it disconnect behind the steering console, or does it disconnect from the gear shft linkage(access from shift cosole when taken apart? or access from transmission end maybe under battery area?

Answer
Bob,
I know that the cable comes out at both ends. However I am not entirely sure what would happen if you left it disconnected at one or the other ends. The cable actully fits into the ignition lock. I would say that you will need to try it and see what happens. My best guess would be that it would work to where you can turn off the key and remove it no matter what position the gear shifter is in.
