Volvo: 87 240 wagon, fuel pressure gauge, hall switch

Question
My wagon stalled while driving down the road, it would not restart. After towing to shop he called said it was a fuse.  I picked it up and on the drive home it did the same thing.  Fuses where all fine. Towed home it set overnight, started in morning, stalled after it got hot (about 15 min.) now sometimes it starts sometimes not. Replaced fuel relay pump but lost now.

Answer
Mary,
Run the car with a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if there is also a loss of pressure or the pump turns off as the car dies. Check for power at the coil with a test light light. 12 volts at the blue wire key on and pulsing at the other wire when cranking the engine. I have seen the pick up coil in the dist. fail and after warming a bit cause the engine to dies out. The plug at the dist 3 wires one will have 12 volts key on and the center one when it is grounded will cause the spark to happen and the injector to fire. Take ohm reading of the pick up.
ENGINE WILL NOT START

Check for spark at coil wire and plug wires. If spark is present, check secondary ignition components. If no spark is present, proceed to step 2.
Disconnect distributor connector.
Turn ignition ON and bridge terminals B and C several times at the distributor harness. Coil wire should spark each time the terminals are bridged.
If coil wire sparks, check and replace the distributor hall switch.
If coil wire does not spark, check control unit ground connection at intake manifold.
If ground is OK, check for voltage at terminal 15 at the ignition coil. If voltage is not present, check the circuit between the ignition switch and terminal 15 of the coil.
