Volvo: Trans on 2004 XC90, frequent oil changes, volvo dealership

Question
We currently have 3 Volvos and have been extremely satisfied with performance and service, until now.  The 2004 XC90 with 41,200 miles requires a new transmission - all service and maintenance was completed timely and by a Volvo dealership - when it was in for the 37,500 service, we mentioned a sluggish engine and were told we should change the oil more frequently than Volvo suggested.  Is this common in the new line? Any input of explanation would be appreciated - Thank you

Answer
Heidi,
There have been a lot of trans problems with that car. The car is still under warranty so try their sugestion and change oil more often. However I do not know of any maintance sugestion that required trans oil to be changed.
Talk to the service manager and see if he/she can explain more clearly what the meaning of more frequent oil changes mean. If not satisfied make an appointment with the Volvo's dealers service rep.
