Volvo: Code 3-2-2 on A1, cause interference, limp home

Question
Aloha Mate, I've been reading through this group and you are definitely the person to speak with when it comes to Volvo. I bought a '95 850 wagon and I got the 3-2-2 code at A1 after reading your advice on the blinking winter dive arrow. Any help would be appeciated, thanks in advance.
MAHALO, "pete"

Answer
Dominic,
The control module calculates the ratio between the transmission input rpm and the car speed. There is a specific ratio for each gear. If the TCM registers a ratio deviation of more than 10%, the DTC 3-2-2 is set.

Substitution value

The TCM "Limp-home" program has been initiated and the transmission operates only in 4th gear.

Defect cause

Interference with or signal errors on the signal from the transmission rpm sensor
Interference with or signal errors on the signal from the vehicle speed VS signal from the combined instrument
Contact resistance in the Solenoid S1 or S2 circuit.
Gear position sensor incorrectly adjusted
Malfunction in gear position sensor
Transmission oil level too low.
Mechanical fault in the transmission. Worn componenents in the transmission causing slippage or reduced system pressure.
Fault sympton

Poor performance due to the transmission operating only in 4th gear
A noise or some obvious mechanical fault is the most common indication of a mechanical fault in the transmission.
I would clear the code and drive the car to see if there were any problems. The code may not return.
