I have a 1998 volvo s90 and out of nowhere, my check engine light came on...what should i check 4?

Unless you have a scanner that will be able to read any codes, and have the capability of repairing the car where you are at you will need some help from a pro. There is no way to access and codes "manualy". If the car runs without any problems drive carefully to a Volvo repair shop. If there are any signs of poor running have the car towed the rest of the way. Better a tow bill than a car that has a very costly repair.
