Volvo: Volvo S40/2000, hood latch, volvo s40

my son left the glove box open in my car and battery died, I am trying to jump the car but the hood will not release. I pulled the inside lever and nothing and tried release it from the front with a screwdriver wedged in the grill but it will not move. Is there some emergency way to open the hood.

The hood latch in the car is all there is to open the hood. If the hood is stuck, try this: while pulling the latch handle have someone push and or pull on the hood to allow that latch to release. If the hood reamins stuck you'll have to get under the car, possibly remove the front air guide to gain access to the cable and see if you are able to grab it with pliers and give it a pull.
