Volvo: Motor oil, frequent oil changes, initial color

Question
Hi,
I recently got a Volvo-1985-240 DL,Station Wagon, Automatic Transmission,2.3L
My problem is that i recently got an oil change and the initial color of oil was trnaslucent and non-smelly. Now after ~300mile it looks burnt and smells. Is it due to the PCV valve?
thanks n Bye
Shaun

Answer
Shaun,
Do not hesitate to change the Flame shield, but I do not think that will cause the oil to smell. Have the oil changed after the flame shield repair, use a brand name oil and ask the tech there his opinion. Oil will darken as it gets older, maybe the previous owner did not do frequent oil changes and the new oil is cleaning up the engine, causing it to get dark and smell a bit.
