Volvo: spark loss during peak, power stroke, older cars

Question
Hi Ray, I have a question, I have an 83 volvo242 dl, I recently bought this car and after Ive replaced the coil wires , cleaned intake system and injectors , the car sounds great however suddenly the car will lose all spark usually at the end of the power stroke in 3rd gear , it will just cut. ill try to start the car and nothing , I checked the coil and no spark, I checked all wires wrapped any bare ones and about ten minutes later it"ll start right up, will run great again untill , it cuts right out, I dont get , I dont believe its the alternator because the car wouldnt just cut like that , Do you think this is a short in my wiring harness or a problem with the cars computer on the passenger side? Im stumped and not sure what else to do ,When it happens again should I test the brain with a volt meter to see if it is dead, or is there something else I should check, any help would be greatly appreciated ,
Thank You
Mike

Answer
Mike,
Check the continuity of the pick up in the dist. Then when the car stalls see what it is. I have seen a lot of these fail on the older cars. Alt is only to charge the battery and it would be the problem only if it was not charging the battery causing the car to run on battery only until the battery dies.
