Volvo: my volvo hesistates, volvo 850, 1996 volvo 850

When starting my 1996 Volvo 850 and then going to reverse I hear a squealing noise that's coming from around the drive belt.  Also there is constant hesistation in reverse.  It hesitates in drive as well (but only during acceleration and it's an osciliating hesitation).  Any ideas?

So idle is good and steady driving ok just upon acceleration. Have someone with you and identify where the noise is from. Check the drive belt and all the idler pulleys. I have had a couple of trans failures that caused the engine to die out when put into gear. Read any codes in the system engine and trans.
