Volvo: 1999 S70 T5 - SRS light and Starter problems, volvo dealership, radar installation

Question
I have a 99 S70 T5 with 76,000 miles on it.  The last couple of months my SRS light has been on and is staying on.  Also, it seems to be getting harder and harder to start for the first time of the day or if it has been sitting for awhile (2-4 hrs) and then I go to start it again.  If I run a quick errand (driving time about 10-15 min) and then stop it and try and start it again - No Problem!  We did recently have our Radar Detector wired in somewhere under our steering column and I was wondering if they could have done something during this process that would make the SRS light come on or the starter to not connect when trying to start?  I was told that it was probably the computer, but I don't trust their opinion (Not a Volvo Tech), and another person that I trust told me they thought it might be related to a fuel pump valve issue?  We unhooked the Radar Det. and both of the problems are still there, but that doesn't mean they didn't maybe do something on the install.  It was not done at a Volve place but a business that tinted our windows and does other installs.  We are trying to decide if it is going to cost us more money to keep and repair with the 100,000 mile maintance coming up, SRS light, starter, etc or if we should hurry up and sell it.  We don't have a lot of money to just pour into a car.  We need a cheap but effective way of fixing this problem or selling it. It is due for the inspection but I know it won't pass with the SRS light on.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions besides going to a Volvo dealership and spending $1000 or more.  Thanks so much,
Caren

Answer
Caren,
The SRS light means there is a problem in that system. The codes need to be read and the fault repaired. As to what caused the problem you will need the code and follow that to the root of the problem. Could something have gone wrong during radar installation, very possible. The starting issue needs a bit of diagnosis by a tech that has some experience and the right tools. Any good independent Volvo repair shops in your area? Now the cost will be what you need to ask, like how much for a diagnosis and then are you willing to pay that amount?
