Volvo: 1988 wagon too old?, volvo experience, toyota camry

Question

I'm interested in a 1988 240DL.  The seller says it hasn't passed
inspection: needs new suspension, 2 new tires ; not sure what
else.  it an auto with 193, 000 miles.  $1000 or best offer.

is it too old to fix up?  I like its size; roominess, can carry 4 x 8
sheetrock no problem, wondering if the investment is worth it
considering its age and mileage.

i've had 2 jettas which i loved, but 1988 as well, but needs so
much replacements i got rid of it. Now i drive a toyota camry, so
i'm spoiled, but missing the room of a wagon.

what do you think?

Answer
Michelle,
Have someone that has Volvo experience look over the car and give you a list of things that are in need of repair now. That will help you to see if the car will be worth the money. Now I do see cars that have well over 200K on them and they still run strong and look pretty good. Make sure that there is not any rust that will give you any problems.
