hi i am using a volvo 960 1993 2.9L V6, the car is currently being stored for the summer however i try to start and drive it at least once a week, I was driving it about 7 days ago until today i tried to start it and i was having a problem getting it fired up after about 10 mins of doing it it started fine but the check engine light stays on and i would need to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from stalling, i added new gasoline into the tank(before it was pretty much empty)as well I also noticed that the gas cap isn't the best and can not be shut tight, what would you suggest the problem is for this rough idle the RPM jumps between 500-750 although i had uneven idle before but this time the RPM gauge jumps back and forth which it didn't do before only a few days back...... thank you so much for your help

Pacman,
The trouble codes may indicate what is happening. The code may lead to a mis firing cylinder or a failed injector, or even a vacuum leak. Vacuum leaks can be found with a smoke machine. Pump smoke into the manifold, see where it is leaking. Gasket or seal? Carb cleaner also does a fair job. Spary the manifold while it is running to see if that changes the idle.

Answer
Pacman,
Solution for repair is to see what has failed and replace or reapir that piece. You need a tech that has diagnostic skills and would be able to read codes as needed and preform the work needed to get the engine running properly. I would ask Ford if they would be able to work on that engine. Each manufacture has its own diagnostic system and not everyone is trained and skilled enought to read the system and or do the repairs. Most shops specialize in certain cars and stick to those so they can stay skilled on what they work on.
