Volvo: 1985 Volvo distributor, salvage yard, laura check

Question
I have a 1985 Volvo 240.  The mechanic says that the sensor in my distributor is not working and that it needs to be replaced.  About $250 for parts and $300 for labor.  My dad has a 1983 manual transmission Volvo that is not running.  Can I use his distributor?  Would you reccommend getting one for about $100 at a salvage yard.  I am a school teacher and on a tight budget!!!

Check to be sure that both distributors have the same electrical plugs and that both have a vacuum chamber on them. If they look the same use it. A replacement from a salvage yard is also a good idea. Make sure that you supply the yard with the BOSCH dist. number off of yours to make sure you get a replacement that will match.
