HI Ray:

When I push the gas to go faster, the engine starts shuddering.  Bad spark plugs, timing belt, or something else?

Well if there is a bad set of plugs or timing is off there should be a check engine light on. Is it? If not then you may be having a driveline failure of mounts or something. You need to have someone with some Volvo knowlege test drive the car and inspect some areas.
