Volvo: I just bought my First Volvo, crankshaft pulley, fuel pump relay

Question
I just bought a 1994 Volvo 940 turbo with 125,000 miles and was wondering if you had any advice on getting things check right away or if they had any common problems that i should be aware of. The car drives great, although i think i need brakes and i really like it, I would love to find an owners manual to answer some questions i had like whats the shift lock for and whats the button on the gear shift ( overdrive , i assume). thanks for any suggestions or advice

Answer
Robert,
Go to a shop that works on Volvos and let them do an inspection of the car and report back to you. Things that need attention, timing belt, turbo hoses, (to the intercooler) tune up parts, belts and crankshaft pulley, check fuel pump relay if older replace it. Get a report on the brakes. Have the front end parts checked for tightness and wear. Make sure the trans fluid is clean or have it flushed. Test the brake fluid for contamination. Test the anti freeze, flush if questionable.
The button on the shifter is for overdrive off. Shift lock is to prevent the shifter from moving until the brake is applied. Call some Volvo wrecking yards and see if they have any old owners manuals.
