Volvo: Speedometer not working, volvo v70 cross country, v70 cross country

Question
I have a '98 Volvo V70 Cross-Country model with a speedometer that stopped working at the same time I my battery and alternator failed.  I'm not sure what occured to cause the speedometer to fail, possibly an electrical surge, but now the speedometer does not work and the service interval light cannot be reset.  The mechanic has suggested repairing one of the circuit boards in the instrument cluster.  Can I just purchase a used speedometer cluster with mileage approximate to my car and swap out the old speedometer cluster?

Answer
Hello Rob! You can swap it out with a used cluster from another car. However, any trained technician will me able to tell that the mileage it not exactly correct if you decide to sell the car one day. You would also need to disclose that info to the buyer.
