Volvo: 2001 V70, resistor pack, high humidity

Question
The A/C unit freezes up.  The unit has not been recharged or serviced lately yet it will freeze up.  We live in Fl with high humidity.  I have tried to run it with a moderate tempt with outside air rather than recirculating air and still the same problem.  I have noticed the problem most when we are standing still for some time.  When the unit is working it blows very cold air. Can I get to the evaporator coil to clean out any drip vents or what are your thoughts?  Thanks   Gene

Answer
Gene,
I would suspect that there is a blockage in the system at the point where it freezes up. You will have to bring it to a A/C guy and have it tested. If it is freezing at the evaporator pull out the side panel either side and get to the drain tube making sure that the drain is not clogged. The drain is right in the center just where the center hump is all the way forward of the radio. You really can not get to the evap other wise. It is in the heater unit just behind the glove box. If you pull out the fan power stage or resistor pack you can see it just a little.
