Volvo: Annoying Squeak - Volvo C70, rubber bush, cv joint

Question
Hi, I own a 1999 2.4 C70 Coupe. There is a loud squeak that sounds to be coming from the front offside wheel area.It is not a regular noise, and sounds once when I am either speeding  up or slowing down. I would say that it is when the engine moves in the engine bay when put under strain. I found that the rubber bush in the top engine mounting had perished and changed it thinking this may be the cause, but the noise is still there. The garage I bought the car from greased up the offside CV joint as they thought it was that. Still no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Regards  Russ

Answer
Russ,
Since the outer CV joint has been repacked with grease, you might have a hub and bearing assembly going out. If you run the car with the wheels off the ground you might be able to isolate where the noise is originating. I have also sprayed a lubricant from the rear side in the area between the hub and axle to see if that will quiet the noise. Hub and bearing assemblies can be replace fairly easy.
