I am in the middle of reassembling a 1998 Volvo V70 T-5 after a leaking head gasket. I followed the Chilton manual and have run into a snag. As suggested by the manual I went ahead and removed the camshaft sprockets from the cams figuring they were keyed or otherwise marked for proper reassembly. As I have learned they are not. How do I go about properly aligning the sprockets to the cams?

Thanks
Bryan

i would look to see if there are any timing marks on the sprocket, there has to be a way to ensure proper timing, it might be that only one sprocket has a mark (2 cams right?) then when the timing belt is on that one the mark on the belt for the one your talking about should correspond to a mark on the engine itself, this is all i can think of.... you can get factory manuals at volvotechinfo.com
i would want to have the volvo engine manual,

Thanks for your response. But what I need is how to align the camshaft sprockets with the cams, not the cams to the timing belt, that will come later.

I thought the sprockets would have been indexed but the are not. Nor are they marked for reassembly. Think I'm screwed without some tool specific to Volvo for this purpose.

Bryan
