Volvo: 1985 volvo fly wheel problem, fly wheel, inspection time

Question
My father in law gave me a 1985 volvo and I had to replace he radiator, after that the starter died I had to replace that when I got to the mechanic He told me the fly wheel is messed up so now when i start the car it makes a blade hitting metal sound. Did the mechanic do something wrong, this problem never occured before the mechanic touched the car.

Answer
Sammy,
By the noise you say it makes sounds as if the teeth on the flywheel are bad and not making good contact with the starter gear. This will take some inspection time, look at the wheel and make sure all the teeth look good. If they do might be the starter gear itself. Your mechanic should be able to show you where the problem is.
