Volvo: installation of factory radio, volvo radio, alpine radio

Question
Nigel-
The wires on the back of the radio are still in tact and are bundled together like you said. There is a yellow loose wire on the radio that im not sure where it goes. In my dash, there is the bundle of wires then a single black wire and im not sure where that goes either. Also for my speakers. how do i put those back in?
thanks!

Hey nigel. For my sweet 17th i got a new alpine radio from car toys in June to go into my 1987 240GL volvo wagon. Unfortunately in november, someone else liked it too so they broke into my car and stole my radio and speakers. Since i still live in the same area and my parents dont feel like replacing it, i have decided to put back in the default volvo radio and speakers. a radio is better than no radio! Anyways, i was wondering if you could lead me step by step how to install the volvo radio and speakers back into my car. the theives left all the wires in. Thanks so much
Hayley

all radios are the same pretty much,(not the speaker wire colors).  Here are the 87 volvo colors:  the LEFT speaker: the + wire is YELLOW/WHITE the - wire is WHITE.  the RIGHT speaker: + is GREY/YELLOW the - is GREY. 4 wires total 2 on each side with different colors. there is an antena , real thick and black, ALL RADIOS CAN ACCEPT THIS CABLE. it just plugs in and the other cable (s)should just plug in to the back of the radio, but they might not since someone who installed it might have cut the original wires,  and since the plug for the volvo radio might have been thrown away (see if there is a hole in the back of the radio for a plug)you would be extremely fortunate if the PLUG is STILL PLUGGED INTO YOUR VOLVO RADIO with the wires cut.  if not your not going to be able to use the volvo one. your best bet might be to just buy another alpine one again with the same plug, (see if there is a bunch of wires , red, yellow, orange etc. in the radio area with a plug on it) that is an alpine plug and will not plug into the volvo radio (i'm pretty sure of that)

Answer
the single black wire is the antena, there should be a hole in the back of the radio for that, there should be 2 wires in each door for the door speakers, i would match up all the other color wires, make sure you tape them with electrical tape (really important!, it's black)i don't have a manual for the GL's but the colors usually go like this, red for radio power, orange for i forget, yellow for the clock , these might not be the same for volvo, but it doesn't matter since you say the wires are in the dash, i would match them up, but make sure that the ones in the dash are not for the alpine radio
