Volvo: How do I price my 1983 Volvo?, valve cover gasket, volvo 240

Question
Hi Jimmy,

First, I've been skimming some of your posts.  Thanks for your
willingness in answering so many questions for people - it
shows your kind heart.

I am going to be selling my 1983 Volvo 240 station wagon.  How
much should I be asking?  The details: 126K; 4 cly-Automatic;
no accidents; interior in excellent condition; exterior is very
good (a little rust around wheel wells); trans is solid; new water
pump; tires have 50K of life left; new valve cover gasket.  Here's
the thing - I've been told one of the cylinders has low
compression (don't have numbers on how low) and that the
engine will eventually fail.  There is also an oil leak on the rear
engine seal.

I've seen similar cars listed between $300 and $3200 and many
of the typical guides don't give numbers for an '83.  I'd like a
price that is fair to both me and a buyer.  Any thoughts?

Thanks for your time!

Answer
Hello Donny! If the car has engine problems, it is not worth much at all. The milage is low for that year, but the age and the problems will scare many buyers. It is difficult to put a price on a car I have not seen. If I had to guess, I would say $500. You may be better off donating it to a charity. Hope this was somewhat helpful.
