Volvo: 91 740 no start, accurate diagnosis, fuel pump

Question
Wifes car so not sure of ALL the details. Drove it home friday and monday would not start. Cranks OK, but will not start. Couple items. Has fresh fuel, recently doors started locking on their own, has what i believe is after market alarm thats wired into the drivers side floor board with a toggle switch and upon further review, a little push type "reset?" button. Either way, it doesnt seem to matter. Checked fuel & fuel pump fuses. Good! Yet, seems to be starving for fuel. I took the air intake off and it's "dry" in  there but I dont know squat about fuel injection other than there isnt a Carb to see if it's getting fuel. I did hear about the back of Ign switch sometimes going funky and doing strange things.R & R that ... still nothing Jimmy, is there a way to see if the fuel pump is pumping or perhaps shut off by alarm control... One thing for sure, I'll run out of $$ before i run out of options. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards
BW

Answer
Hello Bob! The best thing to do is to check for power at the fuel pump when it is not starting. If there is power there and no fuel at the injector rail, the fuel pump and/or relay is bad. You also need to see if spark is present. It is best to have it checked out to get an accurate diagnosis. Sometimes, guessing can be more costly!
