Volvo: Volvo 240 running rough, engine light came on, volvo 240, first reading

Hi,
My 1990 240 has 230,000 or so miles and has been maintained, but the other day the car started running rough and the check engine light came on. I've continue driving this week and the engine light is still on and about every other day the car runs rough at low speeds. What could be the problem and can the engine light be turned off?

Hello George! The problem can be found by first reading the fault codes stored in the computer. After they are read you will have a better idea of what the problem is.The light can be turned off, but may come right back on if the fault is not fixed. I would have a Volvo technician check it for you.
