Volvo: 1984 240 volvo will not start., dash radio, signal lights

Question
Ok here goes the problem.  I have a 1984 240 volvo automatic. As i was driving down the freeway one day, I admit i was going a little fast, the car started stauling so i pulled over.  Now the car will not start. I actually have to get a jump to get the car to light up as in dash, radio, ect.  when im getting jumped dash is on, it makes a sound like it wants to start more than just a click but nothing. before this the signal lights would not work unless i had been driving for a while. Im going to change the battery, alternater, computer.  but i wanted an opinion.  Is it really necessary? oh yea i feel kind of dumb asking this but i was running low on gas. there is gas in the car now...  I would really apreciate your answer..

Answer
I could be several things.  If your alternater did go out while driving, you would have stopped charing the battery and the car would have eventually died like it did.  Even after jump starting, if you didn't keep the other car connected, it would die right away because there was no charge to the battery from your own car.  So at the very least, I would check your alternater function.  Likewise, if you happened to run out of gas, and your fuel pump could have sucked air into the system, making it very hard to restart the car, even with new gas.  I would check your fuel filter and purge your fuel lines of bubbles if the alternater turns out to be fine.  Good luck!
