Volvo: volvo oil consumption/idle, tacometer, oil consumption

Question
Our 99 V70 110K Mi has run great but recently developed a very rough
idle as it comes to a stop - best desribed as a pushing feeling though the
tacometer looks like it is down to 500 rpm.  A second or so after
stopping it smooths out and is fine. Starts great, accelerates fine.
chek engine light (not oil light) came on about the same time and I
noticed that it seems to be losing a lot of oil all of a sudden  (1 qt
in a recent 500 mi trip)
Is it a serious problem?  I seem to remember a throttle plate
cleaning related to a check engine light on this car about a year
ago.

Answer
Hello Randall!  You may have to have the ETM replaced. That is the electronic throttle module. You may want to have a Volvo technician read the fault codes that are stored in the ECM. That will point you in the right direction. These cars usually do not consume oil unless it is a turbocharged engine. At higher mileage, the turbo could start to use some oil.
