Volvo: Starting, fuel injectors, spark plugs

My 1983 240 will start while the starter is engaged but shuts off when the key is released.  It appears that the power is still going to the ingnition system but the engine won't run.  Any suggestions?

That's a pretty broad problem to start with.  I suggest you test both the fuel injectors and the spark plugs while cranking the engine.  It sounds like you either don't have a spark, or don't have fuel being delivered.  Once you've narrowed it down, let me know, and we can continue the investigation.
