Volvo: 97 volvo 850 instrument cluster probs..., gauge cluster, volvo 850

Question
I have a 97 volvo 850.
All the guages have just stopped working....
speedometer, odometer, tripmeter, fuel guage (the biggest pain), and tachometer...
the warning lights, clock, and back lighting work.... I have reseated the connectors to the cluster and can see no problems with wire...is there a fuse or relay somewhere that controls these. I can't seem to find anything about them....
Thanks
Arne

Answer
I don't know the 850 series well enough to tell you where the gauge cluster fuses are, but my first step would be to test the output voltages of the cluster connectors themselves.  My guess is on a 97 model, all gauges are electronic, and controlled by the computer.  It's possible you're suffering a failure in that area.  Seeing if the wires are live will tell you to concentrate on the computer, or on the cluster circuitry itself.  Good luck!
