Volvo: 88 volvo neutral safety switch install, mass air flow meter, mass air flow

Question
jason, i am going to change my neutral safety switch and need to know how to do it. also my son has a 91 240 that is idleing badley.the engine bogs down when he floors it but if he starts off slow it seems to work just fine.any pointers?                                                   thanks.

Answer
On the 88 model, I'm not quite sure where the switch is located.  My best guess is that if you remove the shifter cover, you'll notice a two wire sensor mounted on the metal grating which gets triggered when you move the shifter.  To get more detailed information, I suggest you post the question on www.brickboard.com, so others who own the 88 can tell you.  As for the 91 your son has, usually those symtoms mean the car is either running rich or there is a timing issue.  I would check the knock position sensor, the mass air flow meter, and the oxygen sensor, the latter two control the mixture, and the knock sensor, if it fails, will affect the computer's ability to adjust the timing.  Good luck!
