Volvo: Replace a manual transmission by automatic Volvo 740 1987, volvo 740, san jose costa rica

Although your expertise is in 240 probably you can answer my question.
I wish to know whether you would recommend to replace the original manual transmission by  automatic and if answer is yes can you tell me how to get one.
I am a 76 years old and my left knee is getting a little bit week and of course I would like to keep my old Volvo.

You can replace the manual with an automatic, but it's a big job and a mechanic will charge a lot of money to get it done.  Generally, depending on your mechanic, they will find one for you, or you can get one ordered from a local junkyard.  Another suggestion, which would be cheaper, is to sell your manual and buy a similar Volvo with an automatic.  Good luck!
