Question
Dear EXPERT,

1990, 740 GL, AC, original owner.  she grew up in chicago and now lives in portland OR(past three years).  My problem is rough rough start in the morning, rough start every time there after, once started or warmed up (both) she almost wants to stall or bogges down upon any acceleration for about 2 or 3 seconds. the R.P.M. has no signifigance on the boging.  and also sometimes back fires through the intake when floored on acceleration.  I have done the electronic on board self diag several several times and keep getting 3-2-2 (cold start valve) is ther a way to check the cold start valve and would or could that be doing it.  the other idea would be crank position sensor.  THANK U 4 taking the time 2 read this. 6/8/2005

Answer
Hello Peter! The was an upgrade for the ECM for your year and model car. Look on the inside of the gas door, there should be a sticker that says RE92. If not the ECM and wiring will need to be upgraded and modified. Only a Volvo dealer or a Volvo specialist will be able to repair it. If the RE92 sticker is there, you will have to have it fault traced by a technician for a proper diagnosis.
