Volvo: 93 240, abs brakes, volvo 240

Question
Hi Jason,
I have had an 87 volvo 240  for the last six years and ive recently had a fender bender
so ive decided since ive always wanted a station wagon to look for a 93 240 since
that's the last year they made that body style
which i really like.
Are there any major issues that you know of
with that year? is it ok?
i saw one that i really liked the other day and am
wondering if he is asking a reasonable amount or if  its overpriced and am of course
hoping not to get a lemon. am having my mechanic look at it as well but am wondering what you think.
heres the stats: 93 240 DL wagon
•2 dinks i assume non accident related as i ran the vin # and it showed a clear title, the seller being the 2nd owner.
• he has service records, and said it was serviced oil changed regularly
• all windows seem to work
• when test drove the car seemed pretty smooth though a little more sluggish than mine. is that the difference between 4 cyl and 6 cylinder which mine is?
• he alerted me that it will need new brakes soon (which i felt) and as well as shocks.
• the car has 130,000 original miles
he is asking 4,500, how does that sound to you?
also is there anything else i should watch out for? i need to let him know of my decision tom so provided you have a second, any and all words of wisdom re this model will be more than appreciated.  thank you so much for your time.  flavia

Answer
Most agree that if you are looking for a new model 240, 1991-93 are the best years, with ABS brakes and airbags.  The 4-cylinder will be less powerful than your 6, but will also be much more reliable and better on gas.  If the car is in overall good condition, and you can verify the miles with his records, 4500 is a pretty good deal.  The late model 240's are in very high demand, and I've seen them go for a lot more than that.  Because they are getting more rare, I would jump on this one if the car feels right.  Good luck!
