Volvo: Sputtering, oil light, distributor cap

Question
Hi.  I appreciate any help you can send my way.

I own a '88 740 GLE non-turbo (186,000.00 km).
When I start the car, after being off over night / during work hours, and drop it into gear (reverse or D) she kinda sputters & almost stalls.

The fuel pump was replaced last year (original part).

Also.

The oil light came on yesterday.  Even though I've another month and a half before it's due to be changed.  I checked the oil, and it isn't down any.  The oil looks decently clean, and I made sure the cap was tight.

Answer
My first question would be, how long does it take for those symtoms to clear up?  My guess is that something is happening at night to create the issue.  Start thinking about where you park the car at night, what the weather has been like, if the car gets wet at all.  It sounds like you could be getting condensation in your distributor cap which would cause the rough running until it dried up.  I would open the hood in the morning before you start the engine and check for unusal things.  I would also check for water in your oil, which would indicate a more serious problem, but would have the same sort of symtoms.  Good luck!
