Volvo: Remote Locking, volvo specialist, independent volvo

Question
I have a 1998 Volvo S70, and bought a new keyless entry remote for it off of Ebay. I called the dealership and was told that 98 was a split year, and that there were two was to program the remote. If the car was made the second part of 98 then it would have to be computer programmed by them. But if it was the first half of 98, then they would not have to use the computer. Mine was made in April of 98 so I don't have to get it programmed by computer, so I was wondering how to manually program it without taking it to the dealer?
Any ideas at all would be apppreciated.

Thanks SOOO much,
Bobby

Answer
Hello Bobby! The dealer is giving you the wrong information. All 98 S70's will need a PIN number and special tool to program the remote. Only a dealer or an independent Volvo specialist will be able to program it for you. Also, you will need to check the part number on the remote to make sure it is compatible with your car.
