Volvo: 1987 740 gle wagon, down arrow, up arrow

Question
I had a clutch changed on my 87 volvo . After it was changed the gear shift eblem on the instrument panel no longer came on. It's more like a guide to tell you when to shift the gears. it was an arrow the emblem would have an up arrow to shift up and a down arrow to shift down a gear.  I would like to have it working again if its not a major problem to fix. Ilove this car . It's now 216,000 miles and going strong. I also own a 1995 850 wagon also. Thanks for any help.

Answer
There is a sensor on the side of the tranmission that sends an electrical signal up to the dash that indicated when a shift point has been reached.  Because they have to remove the tranmission and unplug those various sensors in the problem while changing the clutch, it sounds like the sensor was just never reconnected.  The shop that did the clutch should plug it back in for you, but if they refuse, you can jack up the car and plug it in yourself.  It usually is on the side, about 14 inches up from the bottom.
