Volvo: 2000 S70 ETM, root cause, software updates

Question
I own a 2000 S70 2.4L NA with 50,000 miles. No ETM problems yet. What manufacture does Volvo use for the replacement ETM ? I don't mind paying to replace the original ETM, if the replacement part fixes the root cause of the ETM failure.  Is Volvo using a different ETM manufacture ? I might have to sell this car if I have to replace the ETM every 30 to 50K miles.  The required firmware download is a big factor in my decision.

Hello Alton! The manufacturer of the replacment ETM is the same as the original. It is an upgraded version though. I wouldn't just replace it because you think it will go bad. There are software updates available that will make it work more effeciently. It is true that there has been problems with the ETM failing, however I would try the software updates first. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" good words to live by!
